December 23, 2023. A reference to the hymn “The First Noel.” “The first Noel the angel did say / Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay, / In fields where they lay keeping their sheep / On a cold winter’s night that was so deep. / Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel! / Born is the King of Israel!” This piece has three symbolic meanings: first, the baby Jesus (the circle and triangle) lying in the manger (the rectangle), clothed in mortal flesh that he may know how to succor us according to the flesh (see Alma 7:10–12). Second, Christ bleeding from every pore in the garden of Gethsemane, an infinite and eternal sacrifice (see Alma 34:14) upon a metaphorical altar. Third, Christ’s mortal body lying in the tomb. The white circles in the background represent angels gathered to witness and testify. Made with Figma, Cirque, and Affinity Photo.
