Weeknotes 3.2

  • The last few times I’ve attended the temple, it’s been a refreshing delight to remember that basically everyone there is trying to do good, and that members are accepted and loved in the temple regardless of which country they come from, what they do for work, whether they’re married or have kids, what their interests are, etc.
  • A couple weeks ago I doffed my Apple Watch and let its battery die, and I haven’t worn it since. The freedom is glorious. I didn’t like the near-constant stream of buzzes and nudges, I didn’t like having to recharge it twice a day, and I didn’t actually like the aesthetics of it. For now I’m going watchless, though I may end up returning to an analog watch someday.
  • I’m still using the ministering changes scratchpad and finding it useful. This idea of tiny frontend-only web-based scratchpads, by the way, has been clinging to my mind, and over the past few weeks I’ve been working on a cousin chart scratchpad (pretty much done, just need to test it out some more) and an outlining scratchpad (still early on). Also thinking about making a scratchpad for making EPUBs. We’ll see.
  • October marks a year of using Scroll. While it’s not perfect, I love it and can’t imagine ever going back to using a third-party EPUB reader. Also, I added an autoscroll feature to help me when I need a nudge to get some momentum going, and recently I’ve found a new use case for it: reading on my laptop (propped up on my nearby desk) while walking on my treadmill. Holding my phone while on the treadmill was causing neck and upper back pain, and I didn’t want to switch to audiobooks because I’m not great at auditory processing.
  • With all this reading lately, I’ve been trying to find ways to make sure I’m still making stuff and not just consuming. I don’t feel like I’m actually succeeding at that yet.
