The other two thousand ways

I’m finding that I learn as much (if not more) from my failures as I do from my successes when it comes to dating. Which isn’t to say that I hope for failure or anything :P, and it does hurt, don’t get me wrong, but it’s in that miniature furnace of affliction where a lot of the growth happens. No pain, no gain, right?

It’s easy to get discouraged — especially when failures seem to pop up more often than successes — but nothing great was ever achieved by someone who gave up. You just have to hang in there and keep plodding along, doing the best you can, clinging to whatever hope you can muster. And someday you’ll break through the storm clouds and reach the summit of success and it’ll all be worth it. (And no, it won’t be a bunny slope back down, but at least you’ll know you’ve made it to the top.) It’s the same not just in dating but in most areas of life. That’s what life is, really — a long string of joys and disappointments all mingled together. And in all honesty I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I can’t help thinking you’re making a veiled reference to Thomas Edison’s quote, “I haven’t failed, I’ve found 10,000 ways that don’t work.”

I hope you’re having fun on your dates too, at least a little bit!

Haley: Yup. Except I remembered it as being 2,000. :)

Ali: Oh, yes, certainly. Most of the dates I’ve been on have been fun. In fact, I can only think of a couple that were downright awkward. (And on one of those, I first saw a rather attractive girl I would end up taking out a year and a half later, so even that wasn’t a loss. :P)
