From bitter to verse

I was originally going to take the Latin Vulgate class this fall, but things have changed. This may be a petty reason to drop a class, but I’m pretty sure that I won’t like the professor very much — he’s reportedly full of himself to a large degree, he intimidates all the other professors, and I’ve never ever seen him even come close to smiling. And he’s insanely difficult. (Though I must admit that the difficulty was part of what intrigued me.) Anyway, I’ve decided that since the class isn’t required for graduation, I’d rather take a class I’m more likely to enjoy. And so I’ve dropped the Vulgate class and instead signed up for Classical Latin Prose, in which we’ll be reading Cicero’s Catilinarian orations and Sallust’s Catiline. It should still be a lot of fun, I think. Too bad I already bought the books for the Vulgate class (all seven of them!). ~sigh~ I was going to sell them back, but upon perusing through them I found I could only part with one of them. The others are too interesting to give up. :) (Especially the Novum Testamentum in Greek and Latin! Mmm. :)) Luckily the two books for the new class aren’t too expensive.

This morning I read through my textbooks (skimmed, rather) and I’ve got to say that I’m really, really excited for my forensic linguistics class. I was sorely tempted to drop down from my high-altitude skimming and actually read it, several times, but I only gave in once. ;) Anyway, the rest of today will (hopefully) be spent reading Fellowship of the Ring, Anne of Avonlea, The Art of Fiction, Bookmaking, and The Gammage Cup. I heart days brimful of books. :)

It is a bit disconcerting when you realize that your prof actually believes that he’s Caesar…
