I was messing around with some Photoshop settings and found a way to get a Renaissance painterly effect, ala this:
I got it by opening Image->Adjustments->Shadow/Highlight and moving the Highlights slider all the way to the right (100%):
The effect primarily shows on the girl’s face (the rest of the image doesn’t seem as Renaissancesque), which may have something to do with the color values. I’ll try some more images and see what kind of an image you need to get this kind of effect.
This’ll be perfect for collages…
