The little purple box

The little purple box

See that little purple box over there in the sidebar? (And in the upper-right corner of this post, for that matter.) That’s why I blog. That number drives my blogging existence. It’s my bread and butter.

Okay, maybe not, but it still has a great deal of influence on me, to an uncanny degree. I suspect this is what stock market junkies go through, and the same experience probably belongs to football (insert your favorite sport here) addicts as well. It’s all about the numbers.

Is that really why I blog? No. I was blogging back before I had a stats counter, and I’d continue now even if there was no way to see how many people actually come and read this thing. But there is something magic about having an audience. Having people’s attention fixed on you can be transforming.

It’s also a good motivation to write, and not only that, but to write often, and to write quality things. I think I’m doing pretty well at writing often (almost every day), but you’ll have to be the judges on the quality. :)

Anyway, today the stats counter hit a record 21 (the highest it’s gotten before this is 17). Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s only 21, compared to 4903 or 26589 on some of the more popular blogs. But percentage-wise, that’s a pretty big increase. (See what I mean? This whole addicted-to-the-numbers thing puffs up your head and then pops it. ;))

I’ve still got a long list of entries to write (27, to be precise), once I get some more time. And that’s not to mention my other three blogs… (Oh, spring term starts today. No rest for the weary. ~sigh~)

Congradulations on a all time high of 21. Ahh, how sad it is that we get so hooked, but I fall in the trap too. I personally wouldn’t dare to put one of these on my own site for fear it would only say 4 (me on 4 different computers, haha) best of luck in the future.
