From Creating Passionate Users, Kathy Sierra talks about TV Turn Off Week:
April 24-30 is the official TV Turn Off Week! I’ve been TV-free for more than six years, along with my co-authors Bert, Eric, and Beth, and none of us will ever go back…. Throwing out my television has made a greater difference in my life than anything else I’ve ever done.
It’s a great idea. I’ve been off TV for six or seven years now, and it’s wonderful. Lots more time to do other, more worthwihle things (like blogging :)). When my roommates move out this week, I’m making them take both TVs with them. Hopefully the new guy won’t have one. :)
Now the one productivity drag that I do need to work on is checking my e-mail obsessively. Freedom lies just around the corner, if I can limit myself to once an hour or so. But can I do it? …to be continued…

It’s so true. Sure I can live without TV, but . . . e-mail? My family is delighting that I’m limited to once a week on the mission. *sigh* I’m sure it will be good for me too. If that doesn’t do it, I don’t know what will.
Meh. I’ve never seen what was so good about turning the TV off. Unless you are using it irresponsibly, it’s just fine. Like email. You don’t need to go without it; just control it. And there are so many learning experiences you miss out on. Like this cool program on neutrinos I watched the other day. And the other one about how to make truffles. And then there’s always the craft lady of steel. Oh wait, she’s off the air. :D
