Well, the good news is that by resetting the PRAM I was able to boot up and get into my machine. The bad news is that the trackpad is stil psychotic and I can’t click. But I can open the Terminal via the keyboard and copy things to my flash drive by hand, and so I’m slowly backing up all my data. Hopefully I’ll be able to use my iPod and do it all in one fell swoop, since copying 20-40 gigs of data 256 megs at a time (small flash drive) could be very, very time consuming… But I’m happy that I haven’t lost everything, and that I can at least get back into my laptop. There’s hope. Of course, there’s also the gnawing feeling that it really is going to die, which won’t be good when it happens.
