I don’t think I’ve ever really talked about the drive to create art. In my current job with the Center for Family History and Genealogy, I’ve been able to create a variety of posters and other graphic design type things which are vastly satisfying and really quite fun. For example, just last week I got to create a chart detailing the Spanish line of royalty (did I talk about that here? I’m thinking I did…) and a map of the provinces and regions in Spain. It’s great, but it’s not enough.
As it stands, I’m stuck at the graphic design level of art, and I want to expand to illustration and photorealism. The images in my mind’s eye need an outlet, and it’s quite frustrating to have to deny them life time after time. So I’ve been thinking about the best way to proceed. Drawing is a skill which I need to work on, as is painting (both digital and traditional media). As far as illustration goes, I want to be able to create pieces that would fit in magazines, if that makes sense. (And I’ve got to go to class so I’m hurrying now.) 3D computer graphics have their allure as well, with being able to create photorealistic scenes without being able to paint. (At least that’s my understanding.) Regardless, I’ve got to progress, so I think I’ll start copying and copying and copying until I get the techniques down. Gotta go.
