In my text processing class today the professor started teaching about Perl. I learned the basics a few years ago but had forgotten most of it because I don’t use it often enough. And yet it came back rather quickly — within, oh, five minutes. I like Perl a lot, and now that I’m doing a lot of linguistic analysis stuff in my major, I can see myself writing quite a few Perl scripts before I graduate (hopefully with nice Cocoa frontends). Ah, talking about programming in class is so much fun. The last programming class I took was in my junior year of high school six years ago. Long time. So I’m thinking about possibly getting a minor in Computer Science Teaching (though I don’t know why it’s a Teaching minor because there aren’t any teaching classes required for it) so that I can take some programming classes. Sure, I could learn it all on my own, and I’ll certainly continue to study things outside of school, but it would be nice to have some of my homework be programming/math-related. Mmm. :)
